The Association of the Dominican Cigars Manufacturers (PROCIGAR) hosted the 1st Procigar Festival for cigars lovers on March 5-7, 2008 in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros.
Procigar, an association that groups the most traditional and experienced cigar manufacturers is looking forward to maintain the positioning and status of the Dominican Republic, Cigar Country, as the number one producer of premium cigars in the world.
Our First Annual Procigar Festival received a significant presence of local and international retailers, consumers and tobacco industry personalities in addition to the support of some of the most prestigious brands in the market: Partagas, H. Upmann, Macanudo, Zino, Leon Jimenes, Romeo and Juliet, Fonseca, Avo, Juan Clemente, Aurora, Griffin's, Montecristo, Cohiba, Don Diego and Davidoff, among others.
The event ran for three days in the city of Santiago, the Cibao Valley, including a full day itinerary begining every day with tours to the tobacco fields and factories of the Procigar Members: Tabacalera de Garcia, La Aurora, Tabadom Holding, Inc., General Cigar Dominicana, Matasa and Tabaquisa.

The welcome dinner on March 5th at the Centro Cultural Eduardo Leon Jimenes started with a tour “Nos Vemos en el Play”, an exhibition that features the dominican baseball history and culture, followed by a recognition from the Procigar Members to the Hall of Fame 1983, Juan Marichal, and Winston Chilote Llenas, President of the local baseball team Aguilas Cibaeñas. The Bravissimo show, a spectacular performance by Ocean World closed this night.

On Day 2, a cocktail reception was held at the Monumento de los Heroes de la Restauracion, sponsored by the City Hall of Santiago, where attendees enjoyed part of the Dominican culture. A city tour on “coche” (horse drawn-carriage) leaded the guests to the Parque Duarte and Rafelito Mirabal welcomed them with his music. The dinner took place at El Centro de Recreo, and old building located in the heart of Santiago.

The Closure Party Dinner on March 7th was held at a private club in Santiago, Centro Español, with a Carnaval theme. Don Amilcar Romero and Fernando Leon received a well deserved recognition from the Procigar Members in honor of their big contribution to the cigar industry of the Dominican Republic. An auction of limited edition cigars and related items was made in benefit of the Hospice St. Vincent de Paul, followed by the magestic group of one hundred Dominicans dancers that delighted the attendees with the show Carnaval Around the World.
A show of fireworks marked the start of the After-Party sponsored by Brugal with a mixture of jazz, electronic music and merengue concluding the main event.
On March 8th, a selected group departed to La Romana for the Procigar Golf Tournament at Casa de Campo and the tour to Tabacalera de Garcia.
