Santiago, Dominican Republic — PROCIGAR, the Association of the Dominican Cigar Manufacturers, is proud to announce its seventh annual Procigar Festival that was held on February 2014.
Sponsored by the world-renowned Dominican cigar companies, members of the Procigar Association, such as General Cigar, Matasa, Tabacalera de García, La Aurora, Tabadom Holding, Corporación Cigar Export, Tabacos Quisqueyanos, Tabacalera Fuente, Tabacalera La Alianza and La Flor Dominicana, the Procigar Festival 2014 welcomed over 300 guests from more than 20 countries. Attendees – suppliers, retailers, consumers and industry associates – gathered to celebrate the seventh Procigar Festival and to honor the Dominican Republic – the Cigar Country – being the number one exporter of premium cigars in the world for twenty two consecutive years.
The Festival started on February 16th in the illustrious Casa de Campo resort in La Romana, where Tabacalera de García factory welcomed cigar lovers to the country and guided them through it's facilities. While in La Romana, guests had a chance to relax before the kick-off of the Festival's main part in Santiago by taking a catamaran ride to Palmilla & Saona Island, spending time at Las Minitas beach or simply enjoying Casa de Campo resort facilities.
On Tuesday, February 18th, all festival guests headed to Santiago, the “Heart of the Cigar Country”. Three days program had many options to offer: tours to Matasa, La Aurora, General Cigar, Corporación Cigar Export, La Alianza, La Flor Dominicana and Davidoff factories and tobacco fields, Fuente Charitable Foundation tour, 3rd Procigar Charitable Poker Tournament, merengue dancing lessons, Cayo Arena Island tour and a beach day, among others.
Having in mind those who have attended the festival many times, the seventh Procigar Festival came up with new activities that have never been offered before. Each Procigar member hosted it's own dinner party so all the attendees had an option to dine with their favorite manufacturer. Cigars and single malt whisky paring seminars which was hosted by Cigar Aficionado and Wine Spectator Magazines was also this year's premiere.
Some things stayed unchanged though, such as a wonderful goodie bag that has been given to all Festival guests during the registration. It had the Festival special edition cigar box, beautiful ashtray, cigar accessories, polo shirt, hat and others promotional items. Goodie bag's retail price is approximately US$300.00.
Traditional white attire dinner at Santiago’s Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración opened up the Festival program this year, it was held on Wednesday, February 19th where all Procigar members were presenting either a new or a special cigar to all the guests: Tabacalera de García – Romeo by Romeo Toro, Corporación Cigar Export – Corona Gorda, Matasa – Quesada 40th Anniversay, La Aurora – Aurora 107 Lancero Maduro, Tabacalera La Flor Dominicana – Air Bender Guerrero Maduro, General Cigar – Benji Homage, Tabacalera La Alianza – Short Run 2011, Tabadom Holding – Davidoff Art Edition and Tabacalera Fuente – A. F. Hemingway Classic. During this wonderful evening guests enjoyed nice atmosphere with the Pachy Carrasco Bossa and Pop Band and the best local DJ in town, DJ Poche.
The closing ceremony took place at the Centro Español, a private Spanish Club in Santiago, where guests enjoyed a delicious dinner and an exciting show. This night, the Asociation recognized Luisa Fernández, Director of the National Board of Free Zones, honoring her hard work towards the development of the Free Zones in the Dominican Republic. José Blanco, from Tabacalera La Palma was announced as active member, also new passive members including EMPA Packaging and Swisher Dominicana were presented to the guests. This event culminated in a raffle and auction of special products benefiting the Voluntariado de Jesús con los Niños and the Hospicio San Vicente de Paúl, non-profit organizations dedicated to helping ill children and impoverished elders.
