Santiago, Dominican Republic — PROCIGAR, the Association of the Dominican Cigar Manufacturers, celebrates Tenth Anniversary of the Procigar Festival.
The distinguished Procigar members were proud to host the tenth Procigar Festival where approximately 800 guests from more than 20 countries are welcome. Suppliers, retailers, consumers and industry associates from all over the world gather to celebrate the Procigar Festival the Dominican Republic – the Cigar Country.
The festival started on February 19th in the outstanding Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, where guests participated to the “Roll your Own Cigar” Seminar and “Long Ash Contest” hosted by Tabacalera de García or simply relaxed by the beach and enjoyed the country’s beautiful weather on the east coast.
On Tuesday, February 21st, Tabacalera de García, the biggest cigar factory of the world, guided the cigar lovers through their facilities and offered a delicious lunch by the Caribbean Sea. In the afternoon, guests headed to Santiago, “the Cigar Capital of the World,” for three days, where they were able to partake in guided tours of Quesada, La Aurora, General Cigar, Tabacalera La Palma, Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, De Los Reyes Cigars, PDR Cigars, Tabacalera La Alianza, La Flor Dominicana and Davidoff factories and tobacco fields. Attendees were able to choose from other exciting activities while in Santiago, including the 7th annual Procigar Poker Tournament with proceeds to local Charity, merengue lessons, a beach day at the Gansevoort Hotel, among others. Also, for the very first time, a Tobacco Seminar “Top 3 DR cigars of ProCigar by Cigar Aficionado” was hosted by David Savona and Greg Mottola.
A wonderful goodie bag was given to all festival guests with a retail price of approximately US$300.00, including the festival special edition cigar box, cigar accessories, polo shirt, hat and other promotional items.
On Wednesday February 22nd, a traditional welcome dinner was held at the gardens of Teatro del Cibao, where all Procigar Members presented either a new, limited or special cigar to all the guests: Tabacalera de García – Montecristo Artisan Series, De Los Reyes – The Saga Short Tales Tomo III, Quesada Cigars – Manuel Quesada 70th Anniversary, La Aurora – A D N, Tabacos Quisqueyanos, S.A. – Juan Clemente 530, La Flor Dominicana – Andalusian Bull, General Cigar – GC-Blend 1974, Tabacalera La Alianza – Selección Oscuro Especial No. 6, Tabacalera La Palma – La Galera Aniversario El Lector, Tabadom Holding – Davidoff Chefs Edition, PDR Cigars – Flores y Rodríguez Conneticut Valley Reserve – Wicked Pug and Tabacalera Fuente – Casa Cuba Divine Inspiration. The night continued with delicious Dominican dinner and merengue contest, where the winner had the chance to choose 100 cigars from one of the cigar brands manufactured by the Procigar members.
A white attire dinner took place at Santiago’s Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración on Thursday, February 23rd, where the attendees enjoyed nice atmosphere with the quartette of Maria del Mar and where David Savona recognized Litto Gómez for winning the No.1 cigar of the Top 25 of Cigar Aficionado 2016.
The closing ceremony was celebrated at the Centro Español, a private Spanish Club in Santiago. All attendees had the privilege of tasting a very exotic Dominican gastronomy, made by Chef Tita, known as the “Ambassador of the Dominican cuisine to the world” for being the first Dominican chef to focus her cooking-line towards the rescue of the Dominican Gastronomy and experienced an exciting show with live music by Franco. In addition, United Tobacco Processing, EGM Tobbaco Processors S.R.L., La Palma Cigars and Zanwill International Inc. companies were presented as new members and a posthumous tribute has been organized to Carlos Fuente. This event culminated with an auction of very special or unique products benefiting the Voluntariado de Jesús con los Niños and the Hospicio San Vicente de Paúl, non-profit organizations dedicated to helping children and impoverished elders.
